Squirrels may seem like innocent little creatures, but they are surely a nuisance on quite a few fronts. The risks associated with squirrels run from property damage to dangerous diseases, and every threat is a real one.
On the health front, squirrels are capable of transmitting a variety of diseases to humans as well as other animals through their feces, urine, saliva, and even the ticks and mites that are found on their fluffy bodies. Some of the serious diseases associated with squirrels include Leptospirosis, Salmonella, Lyme Disease, and Tick Fever.
On the property front, squirrels can chew holes into the structure of your home, and even damage wires and other utility lines, causing financial losses and even putting your home at risk of a fire. Squirrels can easily adapt to their surroundings as long as they have access to food and water. They mainly live on fruits and nuts found on trees and plants in your garden. But their list of edible items includes a lot more than just fruits and nuts.
Since they invade urban homes, they have come to know about the various food items available in your kitchen. So while you are least aware, somewhere in your kitchen, there may be a squirrel foraging for food in your kitchen cabinet. Even though these animals look cute and cuddly, they must not be mistaken for being nice. Even one squirrel alone is enough to cause a great deal of nuisance and property damage.
